Current Accounts

"A great service from Hull and East Yorkshire Credit Union"

Our Credit Union Current Account

Members can now apply for a Credit Union Current Account*.  Our new account offers much more than a basic bank account.

It lets anyone who lives or works in Hull and East Yorkshire:

  • use a cashpoint card to withdraw available cash from thousands of cash machines (this is free if part of the UK Link network);
  • if you qualify for a VISA DEBIT card, get cashback from supermarkets or pay for goods or services in millions of outlets world-wide wherever the VISA Debit sign is displayed, including on the Internet;
  • have all your wages, pensions or benefits (including Local Housing Allowance) paid straight into your account;
  • have your Credit Union Loan paid directly into this account, or transfer your Credit Union savings in as you need them for easy access;
  • set up standing orders and direct debits to pay your household bills (this often means you can earn big discounts and save money).

We are one of the first credit unions in the country to offer this exciting new service!

* terms and conditions apply.

Please note: This is a ’stand alone’ card cash account, with direct (electronic) deposits.

  • Deposits of cash or cheques into the Current Account (CUCA) must be made through a Credit Union instant access account;
  • CUCA withdrawals cannot be be done instantly at the Credit Union office or branch. You must give notice for a transfer of funds.  At the moment this can take 1 to 2 working days.
  • Cleared funds can be transferred from your Credit Union savings to a CUCA the same day.
  • Regular statements are sent (quarterly or after 25 transaction if sooner) to help you track your spending and keep control of your finances.
  • No overdrafts are allowed.
  • As a security measure, before you travel abroad and use your card you should telephone 01482 778753 (select Banking) to let us know your plans, or your card may be blocked.

Having a Credit Union Current Account will cost you no more than 95p a week (provided you keep your account in credit) - that’s less than 14p a day.  The 95p charge will only apply if you have more than one outward transaction in the week.  Outward transactions include standing orders, direct debits, CU loan repayments, VISA debits and cash withdrawals.

Fairer banking

Unlike many other banks, we do not charge you high fines for unpaid items.  We know from research that many bank account holders would prefer a modest weekly charge that they are certain of, rather than be fined £30-40 a time for going overdrawn.  Very few people get completely free banking these days and at least with your Credit Union you know that any charges are only made to cover our running costs, not to make profits out of you.
